Week to Prepare and Getting Started💗

The decision on a topic was quite obviously very hard to make. Considering the lack of time I have for anything but a few TV shows I manage to squeeze into my schedule. Dance teams and School work has completely taken over my life and basically arrested the majority of my energy and time. I shouldn't have been surprised because I am completely indecisive and BORING if you really think about it because I never do anything out of the box?! I have been waiting to be able to try something new for a while but I scarcely ever have a sliver of free time and when I do well... ehhhh I probably just feel weird to not have homework to do or a dance to practice so I resort to sleeping or watching Netflix #slothlazylife #lovetosleep #netflixisbae

Experience the Color.
This summer I spent my sixth summer at camp and was an upper senior camper in their program. During color war, a week long, ferocious battle between two teams of the blue and the gold there is an art component to the sets of "sing" the last night of color war. Sing is where we gather together and get judged on athletics, songs, and sets that represent the team theme of the year. This year the teams were Good Morning Gold and After Dark Blue. For our set, After Dark Blue I had to sketch and watercolor  a sunset matching out theme in 4 days. This sunset was the height of a wall and as wide as a car and with other helping painters we completed this water color masterpiece. This surely sparked my interest in water color art and wanted to continue painting and maybe learn some new skills and techniques but sadly, my life had kind of been sucked away by high school. #classichighschool. Not only was this a way to see an artistic side to myself I never knew I had (because I cannot draw for my life so i always thought I sucked at all art). #whoknew #artisticnikki? (BY THE WAY THIS PAINTING WAS PAINTED BY ME LOL BEST THING IVE EVER DONE!!!!)

Time Hop.
Okay, so my childhood included lots of art as did any other kids. Finger painting, macaroni art, string bracelets that I could never finish #BECAUSETHEYWEREBORING!!!!!! Anyway, when I was young once I got to the drawing stage I started to understand that I stank at art. THEN...... PAINT CAME ALONG. HAPPILY EVER AFTER.

The Feels.
I am extremely nervous to pursue this. Let's start with the fact that before this summer I thought I stank at art. Also, I had very much trouble finding out what I am interested in because I am VERY boring and have been brainwashed into high school and have no idea what I have gotten myself into because high school #suckedawaymylifeLOL. OH, and lets talk about the fact that I cannot draw and barley trace so I better up my skill for this project?!?!?

  1. Wow, I relate soooo hard to your first paragraph lol. I am also pursuing something artistic, although it's much less artistic. Elementary school art class was a real struggle. The painting from camp looks great and I wish you all the luck in the world with this!!!!! Just wondering, what kind of things are you planing on painting? Landscapes or portraits or...?

  2. This sounds like a pretty great topic, and your timeline is solid. As a 'watercolorist,' I definitely support this! I personally suggest using the pan form of watercolor, because they're cheaper (Prang is a fabulous brand), and you don't have to get a separate palette to store time, like with tubes. I have some stuff you could use (tubes, palettes, etc), if you're interested in any of it. Anyways, as Dana said, the camp painting looks great. I was just wondering, are you planning on looking into specific techniques, like using salt or wet-on-dry? I look forward to seeing what else you come up with! Cool breeze.

  3. I love how you include so much personal narrative in your first post about how you're really busy and painted at camp. It makes the post interesting to read. This sounds like really fun and creative project and it sounds like you're going to have a good time going it and are really excited about it. Can't wait to see what you paint.

  4. This was a great first post for your blog and so, so entertaining. The pictures you included were funny and spot on, and it was easy to get a feel for your personality through the writing. (Also, I love your use of hashtags.) Aesthetics are super important to me, so you can trust me when I say your blog looks really nice. I can't wait to seem some of your watercolor paintings; I'm sure they'll turn out great if the one you did for camp is anything to go by. Good luck!
